I haven't seen much comment in JISC circles about Flipboard, the "personalized, social magazine" that turns Twitter and Facebook feeds (and bespoke news sources) into an animated magazine for the iPad. It could be that iPad penetration into JISC circles is low (it's not open and won't run android - discuss) or it could be that the community is worried about the copyright implications of their operation (see http://ukwebfocus.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/stifling-innovation-and-getting-in-the-way-of-users/ ) or it could be that people just don't rate it.
I've been experimenting with using it to read repository feeds (via Twitter) and I have to say that it's a very nice experience. It's certainly a change to see the magazine metaphor being used, and it makes reading a repository quite enjoyable if there are preview images on its abstract pages.
However, I have my doubts about the utility of the Flipboard app itself - I think that almost all of its features could be achieved in CSS3 in a normal web browser.
