Dear All,
We have a 19th century cast iron drinking fountain with canopy in
storage, and I'm trying to build evidence to have it restored. It was
listed for a short time, and many others like it are also listed, but I
would like to know if there are any examples out there that aren't
listed.
It was probably cast by Walter Macfarlane's foundry in Glasgow and other
listed examples can be found in Barrow in Furness, Bristol, Hull,
Uttlesford, Isle of Wight, Chorley, Preston, Hoylake, Hexham,
Wallingford and Sunderland. Similar, but larger, examples are at West
Bromwich, Sandwell, Durham and Darwen.
I've attached a picture of Wallingford's, shamelessly borrowed from
Images of England for this research.
Thanks,
Hugh
