I get it crop up now and again but usually only for commercial /
residential without plant uptake sites.
I will usually (depending on the level of contamination and the
proportion of soft landscaping area) allow it for these end uses due to
the usual low exposure of regular site users and the use of PPE by
maintenance staff.

Clive,
I bought this a few years ago and like you say it could have just said
"slight contamination (with non vapour pathway) = 600mm cover" (not much
surprise there then).
Its full of caveats such as simple covers may be compromised where there
are burrowing animals due to intermixing of soils!..maybe we should
include the presence of worms etc in the validation reports!
I haven't seen it referred to in years
