Dear All,
First of all, thank you to David for explaining the position
regarding the Australian Community psychology community and its
work. The original posting on some other website was puzzling
and confusing.
Secondly, David has stressed the amount of time which has been a lead
in to getting a vote within the BPS to set up a Community Psychology
Section, and mentioned 6 years. Given this length of time, why are
the issues now not clear enough to have put before the members of the
existing list and any prospective members of the new section who are
BPS members.
It could well be argued that if you have spent 6 years and have not
even arrived at a fee structure, what will another year achieve?
This may be very unpalatable, but blaming other organisations, such
as BPS, various aspects of government for problems in society does
not address the problems of organisation within the community
psychology community. The issues to which you refer as needing
careful thought - well what are they? Why could a straw poll not be
taken ages ago, to see whether there is an existing level of
agreement or disagreement? Setting up a parallel organisation
cannot be one of them, as it is nothing to do with the BPS, as I
mentioned before. It seems to me that until there is a Section,
whatever the important issues may be,they cannot be properly debated,
and that it is totally undemocratic to hold this up around the issue
of fees, which is what is happening now.
