Hellos,
As one of the BPS go-betweens, I have been warned that we need membership fees proposed by the end of this week in time for the Board of Trustees meeting. So we have to make a decision - which of course can be changed later.
I asked what the lowest possible fee could be (including none) and she suggested £10 and £5 concessions because as yet we have not had a year of activity to assess the required budget. Apparently there is a small amount of money given by the BPS for the start up i.e. a few hundred pounds but this is swallowed up easily.
I agree of course with everyone re minimising exclusion and wanting to provide something worthy of charging money - and not least David's point that they seem so keen to establish this fee issue first! And then I became more angry when I recently received the opportunity to open an MBNA BPS credit card.. but that's a whole other rant!
So I have established that the lowest fee charged by all the sections is that of the Maths, Stats & Computing Psychology section who charge £4 to join and free for students. Should we try and see if we can get the same as a starting point? If people agree I will email that proposed fee to them. It will affect our budget though of course.
I am very keen for another independent co-operative to be running alongside/above the BPS section as Elaine suggested so long as it all doesn't become too bulky to organise/understand.
The BPS also want a couple of paragraphs to send out to the section supporters to encourage them to join and to come to the inaugural meeting. Anyone keen to do that?
Many thanks
Sally
