Overall purpose of the job:
Christie’s Education are looking to recruit an enthusiastic good all-rounder to work part-time as part of the Learning Resources team providing general Library and IT Room assistance. The post-holder will assist the LRC Manager with the maintenance and smooth provision of LRC services and deputise for her in the case of absence.
The Learning Resources Centre provides the facilities and support needed to aid students on the Christie's Education/University of Glasgow M.Litt. and Diploma programmes with the successful pursuit and presentation of their research into European and Chinese fine and decorative arts. The LRC comprises an art history library of first resort, a Museum Room, IT Room and Reading Room. The LRC provides computing, scanning and copying facilities for the students, and, since 2009, is also responsible for facilitating staff and student access to a substantial catalogue of electronic resources made available via the University of Glasgow.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks:
(Duties include but are not limited to the following) -
• Deliver frontline LRC user service from LRC front desk (loan circulation; enquiries; AV/ICT issues)
• Ensure the good maintenance of LRC issue desk and other public areas
• Provide a high level of professional and friendly customer service at all times and adhere to the LRC student service remit
• Assist with the care and maintenance of the LRC collections, including re-shelving items, shelf tidying, administering preventative conservation, recording missing books, participation in any stock-take projects
• Assist the LRC Manager with the processing of all library stock, with special responsibility for serials, sales and slides
• Assist the LRC Manager with classifying and cataloguing stock on to the InMagic Genie Library Management System
• Deliver inductions to new users to the Library and AV/ICT resources
• Enable students to locate material in the LRC or in other libraries using online catalogues
• Assist staff and students with access and navigation of electronic resources such as e-books, journals, and databases
• Support students using WiFi, copiers, scanners and other IT Room and student equipment
• Provide basic support with the use of standard software packages such as Microsoft Office software and PowerPoint to help students who need it with technical aspects of research presentation
• Liaise with the AV/ICT Technician to report relevant issues and share knowledge
• Provide assistance with audio visual equipment in the Lecture theatres if needed
• Assist the LRC Manager with the electronic design of communication materials such as signs, handouts, booklets etc, and developing text for the online Portal
• Collection analysis and presentation of relevant statistical and other data to inform decision making within the LRC
• Responsibility for ensuring the LRC procedure manuals are kept up to date
• Take a proactive role in helping resolve operational problems and contribute to the development of LRC procedure and strategy planning
• Attend LRC team and Committee meetings and the Christie’s Education General Meeting
• Be able to deputise for the Learning Resources Manager during any absence
• Adhere at all times to the Christie’s Education Health and Safety policy and be mindful of emergency procedures
• Any other activities deemed reasonable or necessary within the scope of the role by the Learning Resources Manager, Operations Manager and/or Christie’s Education Directors.
Skills/Competencies Required:
Essential:
• Educated to degree level
• Experience of working in either an academic and/or art library
• Experience working with automated library management systems
• Experience using and/or facilitating electronic resources for academic study
• Excellent word-processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint skills
• Familiarity with the use of both PCs and Macs
• Experience or interest in cataloguing general library material (books, serials, CD/DVDs), including foreign language, to AACRII and LCSH standards and classifying with DDC
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills and ability to work under pressure and be a supportive team player
• Ability to work accurately with little supervision; to use initiative and organise own work load within the constraints of providing a customer service and receiving additional demands from the LRC Manager
• Willingness to engage in the broader remit of Christie’s Education, learn and develop new skills
• A demonstrable interest in the academic study of art history and art world practice
Desirable:
• Experience dealing with research and bibliographic enquiries; advising on copyright and referencing
• Experience developing printed and electronic user education and promotional material
• Experience taking and manipulating digital images and/or writing for the web
• Experience working with Visual Learning Environments (VLEs) in a higher education context
• An interest in new AV/ICT developments and their potential Library use
• Library & Information Studies qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential

*This post requires the holder to have a degree of flexibility with regard to hours worked during the week and to attend occasional training days outside term-time.
