Hello,
I don't know if this has been previously mentioned on the list, but there's a traveling exhibit offered by the American Library Association and the National Library of Medicine, "Harry Potter's World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine" that's currently making the rounds (in the U.S.) More info and schedules can be found here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/harrypottersworld/index.html. I highly recommend it, if you get the chance to see it in your area...even if you don't have kids to bring along. :) Our local libraries just finished hosting it, with the university and area historical centers doing a lot of supportive programs, many of them demonstrating the way Renaissance magic found its way into historical medicine and cultural life. They did a great job with an academic presentation of magic in the process - I'm hoping it inspires more of the wandering interdisciplinarians on the campus to take an interest in the field! I thought it had a particularly nice emphasis on alchemy and natural philosophy - which is a great foundation, in my opinion.
Regards,
Mikhelle
