Hello Raymond et al.,
In addition to the fantasy works of authors such as Ursula K. LeGuin, Mary Stewart ("The Crystal Cave;" "The Hollow Hills"), T. H. White ("The Once and Future King"), J.R.R. Tolkien and of course J.K. Rowling, which construct universes in which magic operates as a real force, consider the much less well-known Jamie Martinez Wood http://www.jamiewood.com/books/index.html. Her book "Rogelia's House of Magic" is set in LA and deals with the friendships of Latina pre-teen girls and the cunning practice of a grandmother, Rogelia.

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] introduction to magic for kids?
Hello all,
I wonder if anyone could suggest books that are geared toward children (9-12 year olds) that give an open minded introduction to magical practices? I am looking to avoid the "wicca, teenwitch, etc" genre. I am more specifically looking for something to introduce concepts found in cunning craft, ceremonial magic, thelema, and folk magic. The child in question is a girl (my daughter).
Has anyone written something like this? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Yours
Raymond Salvatore Harmon
