Dear Colleagues,
The IEEE Xplore digital library is now Shibboleth enabled. IEEE has
been working with various access federations, such as the UK Access
Management Federation as well as individual institutions to ensure
customers are setup properly. A number of institutions have already
been setup with Shibboleth authentication and be found listed under
the Athens/Shibboleth Sign In link on the IEEE Xplore homepage. IEEE
will continue to setup customers who have requested Shibboleth
authentication as well as any new requests that are received.
IEEE has also been working to set customers up with Athens
authentication by working with the Eduserv team responsible for the
Athens technology. The functional testing with Athens group is now
complete and certification of IEEE will be complete shortly, after
which customers will be able to authenticate in IEEE Xplore via the
Athens protocol.
If you are interested in using Athens or Shibboleth with your IEEE
subscription please go to to www.ieee.org/go/singlesignon to begin the
setup process. Please note that IEEE will need approximately 2 weeks
to setup each customer with Athens or Shibboleth authentication.

IEEE New Journals for 2011
There will be 3 new IEEE Journal titles in 2011. The names and
descriptions for each are:
The IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology
will focus on original research on devices and systems operating in
the terahertz (THz) frequency range. The goal of the proposed
publication is to provide a reference source for the entire THz
community. This includes the applications of these devices and
systems, and new and novel science available in the THz spectrum. It
will include articles on applications and basic science using the THz
spectrum in biology, medicine, imaging, atmospheric and environmental
science, remote sensing, radio astronomy, spectroscopy,
telecommunications, standoff detection and security, and
nondestructive or nonintrusive evaluation and ultrafast science using
pulsed THz beams. Contributions will also include traditional MTT
subjects such as sources, detectors, mixers, receivers, integrated
circuits and measurements in both guided-wave and quasi-optical systems.
The IEEE Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems
aims to publish special issues covering the entire Field of Interest
of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society with particular focus on
emerging areas. It will include research contributions from leading
experts, as well as presentations geared towards a wider audience of
scientists and practitioners. Research will be in the form of overview
and tutorial-style articles and of multidisciplinary research papers.
The journal will be published quarterly and made available in print,
electronic and combo form.
The IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics
is a peer-reviewed, archival publication reporting original and
significant research results in the field of photovoltaics (PV). It is
recognized that the field is diverse in its science base ranging from
semiconductor and device physics to optics and the materials
sciences. The journal publishes articles that connect this science
base to PV science and technology. The scope of the IEEE Journal of
Photovoltaics includes: fundamentals and new concepts, thin-film solar
cells, III-V and concentrator solar cells, Si-based PV, organic PV,
advances in PV characterization, and PV systems. The vision of the
journal is to be the premiere archival venue for advances in the broad
field of photovoltaics.
For those who subscribe to the ASPP or IEL databases these titles will
be included automatically in your subscription. I will contact you
again when we have a publication date.
Kind regards
Steve - on behalf of the IEEE
