Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD studentship at the School of Architecture, Landscape and Civil Engineering.
Project title: Driving development- the interactions between transport and land use in a sustainable city
The succesful candidate will investigate the Greater Dublin Area and how transport infrastructure in Dublin can help to drive sustainable development. The study will use MOLAND, a model that investigates the interactions between transport and land use, to look at transport corridors where transport infrastructure has been put in place before development. These are corridors where transport infrastructure is being used to shape development and encourage sustainable living and travelling, as opposed to allowing dispersed patterns which leads to greater car use and the need for continuous catch up investment in transport infrastructure.
The successful applicant will have a minimum of a 2.1 degree in civil engineering, geography or a related discipline and an interest in transport and land use.
Interested candidates should send (by 10th August) the completed application form (available at http://www.ucd.ie/graduatestudies/prospectivestudents/studentshipsscholarships/phdopportunities/#d.en.17819) and or from Dr. Aoife Ahern ([log in to unmask]), along with 2 references.
Funding: A stipend of €16000 per annum will be paid for 4 years and PhD fees will be paid (EU rates).
