NEWSLETTER NO. 2
19 July 2010
Greetings!
Conferences are always an ideal place for networking amongst peers.
As Social Work Educators and Practitioners, it is essential to take time out to recharge, and what better way then at the TLC 2010 Conference (Teaching and Learning Conference 2010) where likeminded people are gathered.
Social work educators and practitioners’ involvement with students is an investment in the future of the social work profession. Social work educators and practitioners have a dual responsibility in recruiting and training social workers that will maintain high standards. We need to prepare a generation of social workers who are prepared for the increasing practice demands and whose interventions are informed by appropriate theoretical frameworks, approaches, methods and skills. This demands a reciprocal partnership between social work educators and practitioners embedded in ongoing dialogue and support.
Social work educators want to learn from practice - NGOs and government - with regard to how they experience student placements. We need to discuss optimum opportunities for student learning and how service beneficiaries can be engaged.
Come and share your experiences, knowledge and expertise whether as a conference delegate or presenter. Each one of us can make a difference – together we can make a world of difference!
There is still time to submit your abstracts! Deadline for submission of abstracts is 23 July 2010.
In the next two months leading up to the conference please visit the conference website (www.aceconferences.co.za/TLC2010.htm) from time to time to stay abreast of all the latest information which will be uploaded as and when it becomes available.
Please read through the below items/updates, should we have left something out, please feel free to email us with any further queries.
Kindest Regards
Carmen, Jacqui and Shaney

District Six Museum
District Six was named the Sixth Municipal District of Cape Town in 1867. Originally established as a mixed community of freed slaves, merchants, artisans, labourers and immigrants. In 1966 it was declared a white area under the Group Areas Act of 1950 and by 1982 60 000 people were forcibly removed. The museum, established in 1994 deals with these experiences and with the history of forced removals.
