Dear Jane/Priscilla
I suggest that you establish the causal factors behind the
stress/depression/anxiety - are they work-related/reactive to life
events/physiological/existential/dysthymic - get medical evidence if you
need to /link with GP/has this employee been assessed by Mental Health
services to get a diagnosis? OH is in an excellent position to
probe/triage to appropriate psychological interventions. I am of the
opinion that an OH mental health assessment would be a good start/secure
medical evidence if need be - likely to prove to be cost effective in the
long run. I would question why an employee who is citing anxiety and
depression refuses to complete a stress questionnaire - on what basis? If
the organisation requires to adjust the employee's contractual working
agreement with reasonable adjustments as appears to be the case with this
employee, then the organisation is entitled to know whether or not there
is an underlying medical condition which requires those adjustments
otherwise we could all dictate our working conditions.
Best regards
Catherine
> Jane - it must be catching - I have a client who states due to stress
and anxiety they can only work weds, thurs, fri and sat from 10am and
finish no later than 8pm. Nil social hx or probs declared to support
inability to work other days or shifts. Have given them a stress
questionnaire which they refuse to complete so its very difficult to
know what to do for the best either. Would value any words of wisdom!

> Does anyone have any evidence on proven contraindication of someone with
stress/anxiety/depression working mornings?. I have a client with an on
off history of the above who is telling managers they can not work
before 10am. I have found some reading on morning only depression,
however I do not want to open the floodgates either.
