Applications are invited for a European Union funded two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the group of Professor M N R Ashfold in the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol. The successful applicant will focus on exploring the photodynamic behaviour of organic and biological molecules in the gas phase, using ion imaging and Rydberg tagging methods, and seek to extend such investigations experimentally (developing laser desorption methods to prepare involatile molecules in the gas phase) and computationally (by complementary electronic structure calculations).
This project is a component part of the FP7 Initial Training Network, ICONIC, involving partner groups in Radboud University (Nijmegen), AMOLF (Amsterdam), Vrije University (Amsterdam), University of Leeds, University of Oxford, Albert-Ludwigs Universitaet (Freiburg), J. Heyrovsky Institute (Prague), FORTH (Crete), CEA Saclay, Universite Paul Sabatier (Toulouse) and Roentdek (Germany).
The applicant should be a non-UK national, have (or be about to receive) a PhD in chemistry, chemical physics, or related discipline, and a proven record of experience with as many of the following as possible: tuneable nanosecond pulsed laser systems, high vacuum technology, imaging methods, laser desorption methods, excited state electronic structure calculations.
Salary: sterling equiavlent of 53000 euros.
Deadline for applications: 23 August 2010.
