Hi Trevor
I have been using Imagemagick for image manipulation and data extraction
for a couple of years now.
It's command line only, but is very powerful and free. You can download
it from http://www.imagemagick.org
The individual commands can be a bear to figure out, but the Identify
command can pull out EXIF and IPTC data from images.
I use the following command to pull out the filename, size in pixels
(width and height) of an image and its scan density in Pixels Per Inch
(or centimetre) for a set of files and write the details to a text file:
identify -format "%f %w %h %x \n" *.jpg > identify_full_jpg.txt
The information in the file is then used in an media upload spreadsheet
to create Mimsy XG Media Authority records.
One can also use Identify to output any or all EXIF and IPTC data
according to the instructions on the page below:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/escape.php
It can be a bit cryptic in places, but is scriptable for repeated bulk
work.
