italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
If one of the aims of the course is teaching comprehension and communication in a brief time (say 10 or so lessons) and in a tourist setting, and you don't want to cover grammar exhaustively, the even older BBc " Buongiorno Italia" with its video (and audio) materials, teacher text and student exercise book is sound, intelligently put together and quite useful as a starter text for intending tourists. Obviously it belongs to a pre-Euro world, but I think it's worth considering.

italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
A couple of weeks ago someone inquired about a textbook for teaching Italian to tourists. I didn't see any answers at the time, but I recently came across a 2-vol. set by Christa Kernberger, L'italiano nel turismo (grammar book + esercizi). It was first published in 1994 by Edizioni Guerra (via A. Manna 25, 06132 Perugia; email: [log in to unmask]) and has gone through several editions.
