List members may be interested in this call for papers. Interesting
discursive use of "equity" as opposed to "equality"..... Very
CON-LIBDEM.

Please see the call for papers for a Special Issues Journal below. It
would
be fabulous to see submissions from researchers and/or community members
who
have an interest in narrative research!

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
International Journal of Qualitative Methods
Special Issues: Health Equity and Qualitative Methods
Guest Editors: Miriam Stewart and Wendy Austin
Qualitative methodologies provide a unique way to link methodological
approaches with issues of health equity and social justice. The aim of
this
Special Issues edition of IJQM is to: elucidate methodological insights
and
issues related to investigation of health equity; highlight the
relationship
between qualitative methodologies and equity; generate dialogue; and
promote
greater theoretical and practical integration of issues of health equity
in
qualitative research. We invite authors to explore health and social
justice
from diverse perspectives. This can involve the investigation of the
complex
factors that influence health equity, the testing of interventions
designed
to reduce inequities experienced by vulnerable populations, and the
examination of implications for programs, practice, and policies in
health
and health-related sectors. We invite articles by scholars,
practitioners,
and service providers from diverse disciplines, as well as from
community
members and encourage submissions from an international perspective.
Articles are sought that:
* Provide critical analyses connecting qualitative methodologies with
diverse understandings of equity/inequity;
* Reflect on the ways qualitative research contributes to or restricts
the
societal discourse on equity;
* Discuss ethical challenges inherent in qualitative research,
including,
but not limited to issues of voice, representation, and vulnerability;
* Explore the capacity of qualitative methods to capture experiences of
inequity and inequality;
* Offer insights into the ways qualitative methods can allow research
participants to share their voice and social suffering;
* Contemplate the historical evolution of qualitative methodology in
studying
concepts such as social justice, diversity, and vulnerability;
* Analyse critically the relationship between methodological choices
and
issues of equity in practice, programs and policies;
* Discuss examples of qualitative research that further understanding of
equity;
* Describe intervention research intended to promote health equity and
reduce
disparities experienced by vulnerable people and groups.
The editors of this Special Issue have intentionally kept the list of
suggested topics short to stimulate creativity and to encourage
prospective
authors to adopt diverse perspectives. Please remember that the IJQM
only
publishes articles relating to the application of qualitative methods,
not
those focused on research results. Articles should begin with a
structured
abstract, and follow the guidelines for IJQM article submissions. See
the
journal website at:
http://ejournals.library.ualberta.ca/index.php/IJQM/information/authors
Articles must be submitted through the regular submission process of
IJQM by
February 28th, 2011 at the latest. Please indicate at the beginning of
your
abstract "Special Issues Submission: Equity". Submissions will be
subjected
to the Journals' rigorous peer review process. Based on initial
screening by
the editor and guest editors (all submissions), selected submissions
will go
forward for refereeing by anonymous reviewers. Final submissions will be
selected from the reviewed manuscripts. Please contact the guest editors
at
[log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask] for any queries
regarding the Special Issues Journal. Questions relating to the journal
may
