Doctoral Research Summer School Invitation 9th – 12th August 2010
INTRODUCTION
Gray’s School of Art in collaboration with Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art are hosting a Doctoral Research Student Summer School to provide opportunity for PhD students to come together to attend lectures, workshops, network with colleagues and present their research
The theme for this year’s Summer School is developing an argument. We have invited a number of keynote speakers involved in artistic research across different art forms and working in different international contexts.
Within the Art and Design sector, doctoral research explores and exploits the tension between conventional research models originally developed in different subject domains and the creativity of art and design, in the development of new knowledge. In doing so Art and Design research faces a number of challenges in raising relevant research questions and developing appropriate methodologies Through the Summer School we are seeking to provide an opportunity for dialogue between peers and supervisors, making it possible to learn from shared experiences while encouraging individual approaches to learning itself. A key aspect of this learning experience will be exploring how we can manage risk within the PhD process.
The Summer School will run from Monday 9th August to Thursday 12th August 2010 and will take place at The Robert Gordon University's Garthdee campus, Faculty of Health & Social Care Building, Aberdeen.
Research students from anywhere in the UK are welcome to join the Summer School by completing the booking form which can be download from www.nesres.net .and returning it by 31st July to
