The ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science is offering an academic position in the area of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). The appointment is related to research projects which have been partly funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Microsoft Research. These projects are multidisciplinary and involve high performance computing for medical image analysis with applications to surgical simulation and real-time multi-modality registration during surgical intervention. HCI aspects of this research are aimed at developing new interfaces to enhance diagnosis, planning and monitoring of surgical intervention using the technologies of computer vision and multi-touch.
The position is open to early career candidates with post-doctoral experience and/or recent PhD graduates in Engineering and Computer Science with an outstanding research record and publications in Human Computer Interaction.
Students who are close to completion of their PhD will also be considered.
The position has the benefit of being research-intensive and it presents a significant opportunity for early career researchers to focus on building their research and publication portfolio and to be involved in co-supervision of higher degree research students. With mentoring, a limited amount of teaching will be expected and will allow the development of a teaching portfolio. The closing date for applications is August 29, 2010.
