* Post doctoral Research Assistant/Associate in Wearable Human-Computer Interaction *
Based in the Department of Computer Science, you will join Bristol Interaction and Graphics group as part of PATINA project funded by the AHRC and EPSRC through the Digital Economy Programme.
The project is led by the University of Bristol and includes the opportunity of working with partners from Brighton, Greenwich, Newcastle, Southampton and Swansea Universities, as well as with collaborators at the British Library, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Microsoft Research and Nokia Research. This is a unique opportunity to interact closely with a range of institutions and industry in shaping emerging mobile and wearable technologies. The overall aim of the project is to design and build wearable prototypes that can enhance research objects by projecting related information over them, capturing, recording, and replaying activities to support intuitive archiving, sharing and publication of interactions with those objects.
You will take a lead in designing and building the relevant technologies, working across our project partners to coordinate and integrate their input, deploying the technologies in public research settings, and studying and evaluating their use during deployments.
You will have a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a good first honours degree in computer science or a related discipline. You will also have good programming skills in Java/C/C# and the ability to prototype physical, mobile and wearable user interfaces, together with a knowledge of user interaction issues surrounding mobile/ubiquitous computing research is preferable.
Some knowledge of image processing and computer vision techniques is desirable, as is a broad interest in human-computer interaction, particularly physical hardware/device prototyping and qualitative and quantitative evaluation approaches is desirable. Ideally, you will also have experience with real-world deployments and conducting research 'in the wild'. Salary will be be dependent on qualifications and experience.
