Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the School of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology at the University of Liverpool is looking offering several opportunities for interns to work on the project ‘The Lost Gallery: John Garstang and the Discovery of the Hittite World’. Reporting to the Archivist for the project the successful applicants will help catalogue and digitize the photographic collections of the Garstang Museum relating to Turkey and the Near East. Applicants should have experience of using IT programs and be self motivated. There will be 8 posts available working in pairs for a period of two weeks between August and September 2010.

Payment: £7.25 per hour
Hours of Work: 10am-4pm Tuesday-Friday (with 1 hour for lunch)

Role
The successful applicants will help catalogue and digitize the photographic collections of the Garstang Archaeology Museum relating to the Near East so they can be published online. Applicants do not need to have any previous experience in the area as all training will be provided, though an interest in archaeology or photography may be beneficial. The post will involve heavy lifting and applicants must be over the age of 18.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential: Keyboard skills, experience of computer systems including MS Office programs; high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable: Experience of data entry and digital photography including the use of photo editing software.
Personal Attributes
Good communication skills, both oral and written; a systematic and methodical approach to work; ability to work as part of a team; an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; preparedness to learn; an interest in archives, history or archaeology.
