ATASS is a statistical research consultancy business based in Exeter. The company is in the midst of a rapid expansion phase and this vacancy arises as part of the associated growth of the IT support team. The current three-strong IT team work together to maintain and develop the IT infrastructure within ATASS, and the new position is aimed at strengthening the software support available to the research teams within the company.
The main duties include the following:
* General software development to facilitate ongoing research projects within the company.
* Maintenance and development of function libraries (e.g., C/C++) and other tools for general use including the provision of training, documentation.
* Development and implementation of company policies for appropriate programming best practice (including, for example version control) and general programming support within the company.
* Maintenance and development of C++/C# libraries for incorporation into existing company software.
* General maintenance, development and optimisation of automated API-based tools for passing data between remote web sites and local databases.
* Maintenance and development of graphical tools to facilitate real-time user interaction between local databases, local programs, and remote web sites via an API.
* Maintenance and development of MySQL database including user and server administration as well as integration and/or communication with client databases.
Skills and Background:
The ideal applicant will have a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and formal training in at least C and C++ programming and a high level of numeracy.
Familiarity with other programming languages such as C#, MySQL, HTML, Java, VisualBasic, PHP, R and similar would be valued but not essential. Appropriate training will be provided as necessary.
The company network comprises a mixture of Windows, Mac and Linux systems and familiarity with at least two of these would be desirable in any new recruit.
The position involves the provision of appropriate training for company staff and so the ability to communicate well, together with appropriate people skills are essential.
A pro-active, "can do" attitude is essential as is the ability to adapt and to learn new skills as required.
