conference which will take place in Brighton between Monday 13 and
Friday 17 September.

An impressive line-up of plenary speakers has been assembled by the
conference committee and they are joined by contributors to over 25
invited sessions covering a broad range of topics. In addition more than
100 contributed submissions have been accepted for oral presentation and
a further 40 for presentation as posters.
The confirmed plenary speakers are:
* Tim Davis (Director, Quality & Automotive Safety Office, Jaguar
& Land Rover)
* Peter Donnelly (University of Oxford)
* Robert Groves (US Census Bureau)
* Nancy Reid (University of Toronto)
* Robert Stine (University of Pennsylvania)
Topics to be covered by the conference include Composite Likelihood,
Adaptive Clinical Trials, Biodiversity & Climate Change, Epidemiology &
Immunology, Scientific Analysis in Policy Making, Sequential Monte
Carlo, Building Trust in Statistics, Primary Health Care, Learning from
Statistical Ecucation and Important Topics in Genetics. The programme
will also feature a Retrospective Read Paper by Rob Tibshirani (Stanford
University).

As usual, in addition to the main programme the organisers have arranged
an exciting social programme including events on Brighton Pier and at
the Brighton Sealife Centre.
Also on 13 September there will be a choice of pre-conference courses
and workshops as well as the Young Statisticians Training Day which will
this year focus on getting the most from the conference.
The courses and workshops are as follows:
* Principles of Statistical Design (George Casella)
* Emulators for Computer Simulation Models (Tony O'Hagan)
* Management by Fact (Roland Caulcutt)
* Uses and analysis of statistics as part of evidence-based policy
making
