Older versions of SPM used ANALYZE 7.5 format to store images, whereas
newer versions save images in NIfTI format. The structure of the data
in the two types of header is fairly different, although attempts were
made to preserve those fields that were still useful for the ANALYZE 7.5
software. See http://nifti.nimh.nih.gov/nifti-1 for more information.
The http://nifti.nimh.nih.gov/nifti-1/documentation/nifti1fields link
may be most useful, as it shows that offsets/origins may now be
represented as floating point values, whereas in the older format,
offsets were limited to being integers.
If you try to read NIfTI headers with routines in old versions of SPM,
it does not work so well.
