Post-doctoral Position
IAC, Spain
The IAC (Tenerife, Spain), a leading Astrophysical Center in Spain,
invites applications for ONE Post-doctoral position (3 years) within the
framework of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment
(APOGEE), a kinematical and chemical abundance survey of over 100,000
Milky Way giant stars. APOGEE is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
III (www.sdss3.org), of which the IAC plans to be a full institutional
member. The postdoc will be a member of the APOGEE team and will
contribute to the development of pipeline software that will derive
stellar atmospheric parameters and elemental abundances for the
targeted stars.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in astronomy or related field. A
successful candidate will have a strong background/experience in several
of the following areas: spectroscopic observation and data reduction,
stellar atmospheres and abundance analysis, and software development in
IDL. Candidates with a strong interest in the science that will be
pursued by APOGEE will be preferred, but the post holder will be able to
dedicate up to 20% of his/her time to pursue personal research interests.
