Dear all,
I have just joined the list, and am delighted to see this topic coming up. I am currently doing work on images of mathematics, especially in advertising and in films.
For example,
Evans, J., Tsatsaroni, A. & Staub, N. (2007), Images of Mathematics in Popular Culture / Adults’ Lives: a Study of Advertisements in the UK Press’, Adults Learning Mathematics: an International Journal, 2, 2, 33-53. Online: http://www.alm-online.net
Evans, J. and Tsatsaroni, A. (2008), 'Methodologies of research into gender and other social differences within a multi-faceted conception of social justice', Adults Learning Mathematics International Journal, Special Issue on The Future of Mathematics in Adult Education from Gender Perspectives, 3, 1, 13-31.
Online: http://www.alm-online.net
For an article on images of science in the press and in science textbooks, see for example a long-standing project in Greece, e.g.:
Dimopoulos, K., Koulaidis, V. & Sklaveniti, S. (2003). Towards an analysis of visual images in school science textbooks and press articles about science and technology, Research in Science Education, 33, 189-216.
Best wishes,
Jeff Evans

Subject: [PSCI-COM] images of science
Hi folks,
I am a science communicator in Brazil.
We have a research project for analysing the image of science in TV news. We are just now designing the protocol. However, we found very little bibliographic references on other similar studies. Any tips?
Many thanks!
Cheers
Luisa
