The fence round the backyard is in big pain.
So, too, the cement mixer making noise
while it’s fed roaring material. The walls,
holding the upper storeys from our earth
and its sensitivities, mutter prayers
of comparison and calculation,
saying, too, that there are limits. As if.
As if we didn’t know! Put on more weight!
The humans in the space do love themselves,
to a degree, learning from experience
which breaks down class and linguistic barriers.
Some things hurt. Others are well distasteful.
But they privilege themselves as conquerors will;
and there are end stops to their pedagogy.
