Hi Lin
I think I would firstly want to understand the reason for the referral. Has he been referred for you to recommend alternative treatments/therapies that might help or has he been referred because the employer is wondering how long all this is going to go on - as they do - and wants to know if there is a genuine reason for the illness, how long is it going to last, when might he be able to return to work and what, if any, adjustments need to be put in place when he does? I presume a bit of both but it is worth separating the reasons.
For the former, CBT may help but a simple change of therapist might also. What is the reason for the depression? Do you have an EAP?
For the latter and former, a GP report might be of use. Many under treat depression for long periods when higher doses of medication and/or onward referral to specialists are appropriate. A report might give you and the employer a timescale to manage a future return to work and rehab. It might also prompt the GP into providing further care, beyond that which an OH service normally provides and what might be required.
Thanks
Lindsey

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Depression
Hi List, I am seeking your valued contributions on a depression case. The client is currently on sick leave (for the past 3 months) due to depression symptoms. However, he has just recently been referred to me by his employer. Speaking to the client, hestates that he has had 10 sessions of counselling in the past which he felt were not helpful. Just wondering what other (if any) psychological interventions I could recommend this point. I was thinking something in the linese of CBT. Thanking you all in anticipation>
