Mary,
The employer MUST have watertight policies in place BEFORE initiating D&A programmes or they will be unable to act on positive results.
You, as the collection service, MUST have watertight collection procedures in place or non-negative samples will be successfully challenged.
I heartily recommend that you speak to Helen Vangikar: http://www.helenvangikar.com/
She runs excellent courses & can tailor these for an in-house audience to address specific issues that you or the client may have.
She is one of the best people that you could get to train your people and I heartily endorse her courses.
They are well organized and her presentations are clear with appropriate class notes provided.
She will cover all the points that you and your client need to cover in formulating your policies and procedures.
She will also train your Medical Review Officers in the interpretation and investigation of non-negative samples.
Please feel free to contact me off-list if you need more information or advice.
Regards
Trevor Maze

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Drug and Alcohol Testing
Dear List
We are tendering for a contract outside the NHS which will involve testing drivers for drugs and alcohol. I am looking for information regarding ethics, legality, procedures, training and resources for us to undertake this screening. Is anyone able to offer some words of wisdom? Feels like a potential minefield if not managed properly.
Thanks
Mary
