Dear colleagues,
I would be grateful if you could pass the enclosed job advertisement on to interested parties.
Research Associate in Surface Science Studies of Interstellar Chemistry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A post doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr Wendy Brown in the Department of Chemistry at University College London, UK. The main aim of the post is to use experimental surface science techniques to investigate the formation, desorption and stability of glycolaldehyde on model dust grain analogue surfaces. This post is part of a newly funded project to investigate glycolaldehyde formation, desorption and destruction using experimental, theoretical, astrochemical modelling and observational techniques. The post is funded by a grant from the Leverhulme Trust and the work will be performed in collaboration with Dr Serena Viti (Physics & Astronomy) and Dr Ben Slater (Chemistry). The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.
The successful candidate should have a PhD degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline. Extensive experience in the use of ultra-high vacuum, cryogenics and a range of surface analytical techniques is essential. It is desirable that candidates should also have experience of UHV apparatus design, development and modification and of surface astrochemical investigations.
The salary for this post (inclusive of London allowance) is on UCL grade 7, currently £31,778 - £38,441 per annum.
