Dear All,
I agree with Maire and Des that we really ought to arrange a meeting of the network once the Trust has published its conclusions. This is an incredibly important issue, not simply because of the specific threats to the website and the two radio stations but because, as both the Goldsmiths and CPBF responses to the Strategy Review suggest, the ability (or is it the willingness?) of the BBC to defend public service media seems seriously in doubt. Meanwhile, of course, the enemies of PSM rage that the BBC has gone nothing like far enough, and we can rest assured that this is the message which they'll be hammering home daily to the Con-Dems (not that they need much persuading). Thus:

In my view, we need to put the Review in the wider context of the work being done at Goldsmiths on life under neo-liberalism. One of the problems which I found in responding to the consultation document was that one constantly wanted to take fundamental issue with the very questions posed, so loaded were they with taken-for-granted, market-driven assumptions. Perhaps we could invite someone like David Harvey, Henry Giroux, Colin Crouch or Colin Leys (as well, of course, as Nick Couldry) to put this issue in the broader perspective which it needs?
All the best, Julian.

Hi all,
According to the Trust, 'The BBC Trust aims to provide a provisional view
of its conclusions later this summer and a final strategy in the autumn.'
To add to the excellent CPBF response, the Goldsmiths submission to the
Strategy Review is at http://www.gold.ac.uk/media-research-centre/
In terms of a meeting on Labour and Tory ICT policies, Christian Fuchs is
available till end of June but are people already too booked up? It's
probably not worth doing anything after that till September/October whe we
might also know the result of the Trust's discussions.
best wishes to all
Des
