The MeCCSA-Postgraduate Network is seeking nominations for its executive committee for the 2010-2011 academic year. Elections will be held at the upcoming annual conference at the University of Glasgow on 30 June – 1 July. The officer’s roles are described below:
Chair
The chair is responsible for the day-to-day running of the network; chairing executive meetings, and liaising with MeCCSA. The main duties and responsibilities include attendance and representation at the main meetings of MeCCSA, co-ordination of all MeCCSA-PGN events, and liaising between the PGN membership, the PGN executive board and the MeCCSA executive board.
Secretary/Vice-Chair
The secretary is responsible for keeping records of network activities. The main duties and responsibilities include minute taking at meetings of the PGN (3 per year) and the subsequent circulation of those minutes among the PGN executive committee, as well as circulating other information pertinent to the committee's operation. In circumstances when the chair is unable to chair meetings, the secretary fills this role.
Communications
The Communications Officer is responsible for planning, developing and delivering the web-based communications of the MeCCSA-Postgraduate Network. The main duties and responsibilities include circulating information on upcoming events relevant to the postgraduate community, updating the website with information on all the activities of the PGN and uploading issues of Networking Knowledge, the journal of the MeCCSA PGN.
Training
Tasks for the Training Officer have been to research and file contemporary issues concerning postgraduate training. Further engagements include the elaboration of standards for training events hosted by the MeCCSA-PGN and the preparation of guidelines for conference bids. As this role is entering its second year, there is scope to expand the remit.
Outreach
The Outreach officer of the MeCCSA-PGN operates as a liaison between the committee board and postgraduates who require support and assistance from the MeCCSA-PGN. As Outreach officer you can expect to be the first point of contact for many postgraduates approaching the committee and serve as a signposting for any help that the board can offer. As this role is entering its second year, there is scope to expand the remit.
