The short answer to your "Not sure how much it will tell you that you did not know" is that they tell me three things that I didn't know!!!
Really, all that we knew up to this point (other than his purchase of parts of Oatlands and subsequent selling on of some lots) was:
He had two adjacent adverts in the Illustrated London News for properties for sale - one giving his address as "Oatlands House, near Chertsey", the other as 2 Exchange Buildings, London.
He wrote a letter to The Times on the state of French Politics (from memory, I don't have the ref to hand).
He seems to have been employed by the Metropolitan Water Board at some point.
There was a J.W.Peppercorne who penned several books on Jewish Law and History.
He seems to be something of an enigma to say the least.
This list never ceases to amaze me at the amount of knowledge amassed by the members and their willingness to share it.
