Hi Monica
Here at Swansea University, we used RRSA (Research Readiness
Self-Assessment) with postgraduates. It provides feedback to students on
how they did across the different areas of information literacy. You can
customise the tool (as we did, for example making examples more UK
based) and the feedback. We used the feedback to suggest particular
library sessions in areas where the student may have been weaker.
Cardiff Uni are piloting the RRSA with some of their students this year.
Although we used it with postgraduates, it has been used at
undergraduate level and you can customize it.
You can see a poster presentation that tells a little of what we did at:
http://rrsa.cmich.edu/documents/RRSA_poster_LILAC_2009.pdf
Other publications about this diagnostic tool are available at:
http://rrsa.cmich.edu/twiki/bin/view/RRSA/Publications
You can find out more about it and costs etc at:
http://rrsa.cmich.edu/twiki/bin/view.cgi/RRSA
Happy to talk to you about it if you want further details.
I felt one of the best features was that they had created websites for
students to assess. The sites were created specifically to test students
ability to evaluate internet sources of information, and this is the
sort of thing that we would never have the time or resources to do
ourselves.
The support and advice we had from the creators at Central Michigan
University (especially Lana Ivanitskay) was particularly good.
Best wishes,
Clare

Subject: Diagnostic tools for information literacy skills
Hi
Apologies for the cross posting.
Can anyone recommend a diagnostic tool/skills assessment tool that can
be used to check students' information literacy skills/study skills?
It would be particularly useful if it could give automatic feedback to
students and also something that we can adapt ourselves.
I can collate replies for the group
Thanks
Monica
