Dear all,
We are currently investigating a new “underdue” procedure for dyslexic students.
Currently we contact over the phone those dyslexic students whose loans are going to become due in 1-2 days.
We are considering whether to replace phone calls with notices written according to the dyslexia friendly text recommendations provided by the British Dyslexia Association (http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-dyslexia/further-information/dyslexia-style-guide.html ).
We are still not sure whether these notices should be emailed to students or printed and put in their pigeon holes.
We think that providing dyslexic students with notices would ensure that all dyslexic students are treated equally and provided with a service tailored to their needs.
Currently only two members of staff telephone dyslexic students to notify them of their loans and because of the fact that not all students have an answering machine on their mobiles, most times we fail contacting all of them. Also the fact that our office is only partially secluded from the library means that having telephone conversations with students can be at times awkward.
It would be useful to find out how you put in practice your underdue policy for dyslexic students and what you think about our suggestion.
Thank you!
