The IFLA Section on Serials and Other Continuing Resources, in collaboration with the Section on Statistics and Evaluation, and Stockholm University Library, are pleased to announce the pre-conference Measuring Usage and Understanding Users that will take place in the fascinating European capital of Stockholm, where history and modernity merge in harmony. This event will be held at Stockholm University Library on August 8th, 2010, and is organized in conjunction with World Library and Information Congress: 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly (Gothenburg, Sweden, August 10th-15th).
Measuring Usage and Understanding Users: e-resources statistics and what they teach us
In the past decade libraries have been steadily increasing the allocation of their funds towards electronic resources. However, when the global economic crisis strikes, squeezing library budgets, and forcing the roll back of services and acquisitions, the question arises: Do libraries get the maximum return on their investment? Do we have a laser-sharp focus on user needs? Do we provide best service where and when it is needed?
If any of these questions resonate with dilemmas at your library, this event is for you! You will learn about:
* What use is made of usage statistics?
* Methods for effectively monitoring and evaluating usage statistics
* What do usage statistics tell us about how students use the resources?
* What insight do they give us into Information literary issues?
* Standards, services, and best practices for usage statistics
* How can statistics be used as a practical tool in effective collection management and development?
* Future developments in the provision and exploitation of use measurement statistics
This pre-conference is geared toward all those who work with e-resources usage data and wish better to understand implications in their own libraries; also public services staff, technical services staff, and managers.
