Dear DC-Scholar Community,

The DC-SCHOLAR list has not been especially active recently and we'd
like to revitalise it, but this will of course need the input of members
of the list. We're currently thinking about whether or not to hold a
meeting at the DCMI conference in Pittsburgh, which is not far off now.
Does anybody on this list have any suggestions for what might be
discussed at such a meeting? We would like to refocus the community and
list in a way that is of most benefit to its members, probably including
changes to its charter. The current charter specifically mentions SWAP,
and perhaps otherwise needs some modernisation. It is very broad in scope:

http://dublincore.org/groups/scholar/

Given the short timescale to allow the organisers enough time, we are
unable to allow much time for replies, so we would all be most grateful
for any replies as soon as possible. If we don't have a clear idea of
what would be discussed in Pittsburgh, we will not be able to justify
holding such a meeting. If we are simply talking about re-focussing the
group, I suggest that we would have to be fairly confident amongst
ourselves that it will in future be more active and beneficial to its
members than it has recently been.

You may also notice that the list is unusual in having two moderators
who are both from the same institution, i.e. Rosemary Russell and myself
of UKOLN (and I was likewise preceded by Julie Allinson, also of UKOLN).
Does this strike members of the community to be appropriate or
inappropriate? Would anybody else be interested in becoming a moderator,
perhaps in order to provide a wider perspective and direction for the group?

Please send any replies to the list *as soon as possible*.

Many thanks,

Talat
