Graduate or Post-graduate in Geography, Environmental Studies, Psychology or related subject needed to undertake a 2 year collaborative project between Volunteer Cornwall (VC) and the University of Exeter as a KTP Associate - Environment & Behaviour Change Co-ordinator.
This two year fixed term post is the result of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between VC and the University of Exeter. KTPs offer high calibre graduates the opportunity to accelerate their career by gaining experience at senior level in an organisation and receive a tailored development programme.
VC is a charitable organisation dedicated to developing active and engaged citizens through volunteering. Five volunteer centres situated in Cornwall match people who want to volunteer with organisations that need volunteers.
The public's slow uptake of findings from climate science is seen as a failing of the deficit model of science communication (in which science is 'sufficient' and public knowledge 'deficient'). It is now recognised that to encourage behaviour change climate science needs to be understood and communicated at a local level. The successful candidate will work closely with VC and academic staff to develop a voluntary action programme. This programme will lead to the establishment of sustainable lifestyles and communities equipped to respond to local challenges associated with climate change.
The post-holder will be responsible in conjunction with their Industry and Academic Supervisors for driving forward this programme within the company. Applicants will need a good honours degree (at least 2:1) in geography, environmental studies, psychology or a related subject - a higher degree is desirable but not essential. Some experience of change and environmental management would be advantageous but is not essential. The ability to work responsibly and to communicate and work with staff at all levels is essential for this post. The suitable candidate will be self motivated, well organised and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates should be creative/passionate about change and able to think outside of the box to find innovative and relevant solutions.
