We are looking for someone with a passion for exploring interaction technologies to join an exciting new research project. The Gesture Recognition in Aphasia Therapy (GReAT) project will prototype and evaluate a software tool that uses gesture tracking and recognition technologies to help train people with severe aphasia to communicate using gesture. The post holder will explore, adapt and evaluate existing hardware and software technologies for gesture recognition to determine their potential for use in the tool and will be solely responsible for its implementation.
The post holder will also develop the project web-site and will help to document and disseminate the results of the research.
You should have a strong technical background in computing together with knowledge of human-computer interaction and excellent inter-personal and communication skills. You should also have an interest in and enthusiasm
for research.
GReAT is funded by the EPSRC and is a collaboration between the Centre for HCI Design, the Department of Language and Communication Science (both at City University London) and the Stroke Association. The post holder will be based in the Centre for HCI Design which has an international reputation in human-computer interaction and software engineering research, including studies of work and human-system interaction, usability evaluation, accessibility, requirements engineering and HCI for
healthcare.
The post is full-time for 12 months, starting 1st September 2010. Salary will be in the range £33600 - £34607 per annum.
