Subject: A SPECIAL Paul Robeson Event at the V&A, London - Saturday 17July
2010, 2.30 - 5.00pm

I am pleased to announce that after the postponement of this event from
last year's Black Heritage programme, Robeson is back with a vengeance -
a Tony Howard story told against a backdrop of terror, racism, freedom
and emancipation, taken from the words of the FBI, MI5 and Robeson
himself. The afternoon includes an illustrated lecture, a 10 panel
display, a scripted performance with four actors including Geff Frances
(Desmonds, Channel 4, Ashes to Ashes, BBC1 and Shawshank Redemption,
Wyndham Theatre) and refreshments.

As a special offer the V&A have 35 full priced tickets at
buy-one-get-one-free (two tickets for £8) on a first come first served
basis, SO HURRY & DON'T MISS OUT!

To book this special offer call the Bookings Team on 020 7942 2211,
between 9am - 5.30pm, Mon-Sat.

I have included the event text below if you are unable to open the
attachment.

ABOUT THE ROBESON EVENT:
‘I Have Done the State Some Service': Othello, Robeson and the FBI
Saturday 17 July
Hochhauser Auditorium, Sackler Centre
14.30-17.00
Singer, film star, Shakespearean actor and civil rights activist, Paul
Robeson was a towering presence in modern culture. Hear a dramatised
reading written and presented by Tony Howard, which tells Robeson’s
story in his own words and, for the first time in public, the words of
the FBI and MI5 agents who shadowed and tried to silence him.
Take the opportunity to explore the Robeson Project Display, which
focuses on Robeson’s three historic appearances as Othello from
1930-1950 and the political and racial opposition he confronted and
overcame throughout his life.
Professor Tony Howard is an established literary critic and author of
several books including Women as Hamlet: Performance and Interpretation
in Theatre, Film and Fiction (Cambridge University Press, 2007) and,
co-edited with John Stokes, Acts of War: The Representation of Military
Conflict on the British Stage and Television Since 1945 (Scolar Press,
1996).
This event is supported by the CAPITAL Centre, University of Warwick
£8, £5 concessions (afternoon refreshments included)
To book call +44 (0)20 7942 2211
