========================
** With apologies if you have already received this information – this is a great opportunity which we want to publicise as widely as possible **
The Department of Information Science and the Welsh Assembly Government are jointly offering a fully-funded PhD studentship to UK/EU applicants. The UK/EU university tuition fee will be paid and recipients will also receive a tax-free stipend at the EPSRC standard rate (£13290 for 2009/10).
The PhD study will involved working closely with the Welsh Assembly Government to extend the Email Knowledge Extraction system, developed at Loughborough University, to incorporate the automated categorisation and classification of emails stored within email archives. The research will involve developing an effective way of determining the context and the nature of email before it can be categorised and classified. It will also involve developing and evaluating an employee profiling tool which uses the content of emails to determine the domain in which the employee works and the probability that the email will contain information that needs to be stored.
Applicants should have:
* A first class honours or a good upper second class degree in either information science, computer science or a related discipline.
* An understanding of public sector organisations
* Excellent interpersonal skills
The successful applicant will join the Department of Information Science<http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/dis/>, which has a thriving PhD community, and be supervised by Dr Tom Jackson. S/he will be based at Loughborough University but there will be a requirement to travel to collect empirical data and to attend meetings at the offices of the Welsh Assembly Government (all travel expenses will be covered by the studentship).
