**With apologies for cross posting**
Dear list members,
In 2006-7 GLAM (the Group for Literary Archives and Manuscripts) undertook a groundbreaking survey of collecting policy and practice in the field of literary collections. The results of this survey have been useful in focusing GLAM’s activities for the coming years, and are now also proving invaluable for a renewed phase of work on the Location Register of 20th Century English Literary Manuscripts: http://www.reading.ac.uk/library/about-us/projects/lib-location-register.aspx. The Location Register is the key reference resource for locating manuscripts and letters of modern authors writing in English.
David Sutton, manager of the original Location Register Project, has been successful in obtaining further funding for developing the resource. A five-year plan is now in place for updating the Location Register. In the past the resource has focused on item-level information, and the new project aims to continue with this work to create a full up-to-date supplement to the original Register. However, using the information gathered as part of the GLAM survey, a collection-level resource has now also been compiled. This provides a high-level overview of literary archive and manuscript holdings in a range of repositories across the UK and Ireland, and is now available via the GLAM website at http://archives.li.man.ac.uk/glam/survey/. It is hoped that this will be augmented as the project progresses so that additional institutions with literary holdings will be represented.
Information about recent literary acquisitions that was collected as part of the survey will also be made available via the GLAM website in due course.
If you have any enquiries about this new phase of Location Register work, or are interested in submitting information about your literary holdings, please contact David Sutton, [log in to unmask]
