Dear Dave,
Many thanks for this; and yes, regarding the Tal-i-Iblis material we have
been in touch with Lesley Frame (and others) before we submitted the final
version of our text, and more recently also with Professor Lechtman. I
understand that their paper is due for publication in the Journal of Field
Archaeology. Unfortunately, we were not able to refer to it before we
completed our text, but we are looking very much forward to seeing it in
print.
As the caption in Science News says, 'Finds intensify debate over Old World
origins of metal production', and an intensified debate (based on fresh
research) is what we need to see where the various sites stand in terms of
date and technology. Of course, the Catal Hoyuk material dated to 6,500 BC
is to be done again, after the initial 'teaser' paper from 1964...
Best wishes,
Thilo
PS Great news that Lelsey's coming to Cardiff; congratulations to her!
