Biostatisticians/ Senior Biostatisticians/ Senior Systematic Reviewer
School of Cancer Sciences
Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit
The Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) at the University of Birmingham has core-funded positions available for Biostatisticians, a Senior Biostatistician and a Senior Systematic Reviewer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest of the National Cancer Research Institute Accredited Trials Units in the UK. The CRCTU is part of the School of Cancer Sciences which includes the first of Cancer Research UK's major research laboratories to be promoted nationally to Cancer Centre status. The CRCTU has an extensive portfolio of phase II and III clinical trials in adults covering a wide range of cancer disease sites and has one of the most active early drug development teams in the country. The CRCTU portfolio also includes trials in a range of paediatric tumours (with the particular methodological challenges associated with trials in rare diseases). The CRCTU also hosts a team funded by Leukaemia Research supporting phase II trial development in haematology, including paediatrics, on a national level.
Biostatisticians play a central role in the CRCTU, actively liaising with clinical investigators, contributing to the design and conduct of clinical trials, being responsible for interim and final analysis of clinical trial data and having a key role in the presentation and publication of results. The Senior Systematic Reviewer will lead a programme of quantitative meta-analyses and will play a central role in developing and expanding the CRCTU's systematic review and meta-analysis capacity, primarily in the field of children's cancer. As academic members of the University, Biostatisticians and Systematic Reviewers contribute to teaching at under-graduate and post-graduate level. In addition the Unit is actively involved in researching statistical methodology related to clinical trials and associated translational research and is closely affiliated with the Midland Hub for Trials Methodology Research funded by the Medical Research Council. Opportunities exist for members of the team to pursue their own research interests and carry out post-graduate qualifications.
Starting salaries in the range: £27,319 to £35,646 for Biostatistician, £36,715 to £43,840 for Senior Biostatistician and Senior Systematic Reviewer - see further particulars for full details.
