The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental
organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic
growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy
co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the
framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD). The OECD is a unique forum where the governments of 31 market
democracies work together to address the economic, social and governance
challenges of the globalizing world economy. Both the OECD and the IEA
seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-Members of
growing importance to the world economy.
The IEA seeks one or possibly several energy data managers/statisticians
to assist in the compilation, verification and dissemination of energy
statistics. The chosen candidate(s) will participate in the data
collection and help maintain large data bases to underpin the Agency's
work on global energy challenges, such as energy security (including the
IEA Emergency Data System), energy markets, energy efficiency, CO2
emissions, renewable energies, etc.
The chosen candidate(s) will report to a Head of Section in the Energy
Statistics Division under the general supervision of the Head of
Division, working with a team of enthusiastic professionals in a
collegial, dynamic and busy environment. The chosen candidate(s) will
have an opportunity to develop their knowledge of energy statistics and
programming techniques.

Job Duties
1. Data and databases
Receive, review and input data submissions from Member countries and
other sources. Check data for completeness, internal consistency and
plausibility, and correct calculations using existing verification
procedures. Compare data with published sources for accuracy and
consistency with definitions.
Investigate and resolve anomalies in collaboration with national
administrations of Member countries.
Maintain appropriate documentation on data series.
Participate in the creation and maintenance of large computerised
databases and draft instructions for processing data.
Assist in designing and implementing procedures and macros for the
preparation of the energy statistics publications using the main
databases and software. Exploit hardware and software developments to
improve the efficiency of working methods.
Carry out ad hoc extractions and manipulation of data.
Assist users of the statistics, both within and outside the Agency as
appropriate.

Qualifications: education, experience, communication and languages
1. Education and experience
Post-secondary level of education, preferably at university level or
equivalent, in a topic relevant to energy, computer programming or
statistics.
Some knowledge of energy industry operations and terminology would be an
advantage, but is not required.
2. Key competencies
Good computer programming skills in Visual Basic.
Very good organisational skills, initiative and commitment. Ability to
work with minimum supervision and to accept responsibility for the
successful completion of assigned work. Ability to work accurately, pay
attention to detail and work to deadlines. Ability to deal
simultaneously with a wide variety of tasks.
Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a multicultural environment,
to foster and maintain good working relations, as part of a team, with
colleagues at all levels, national administrations and industry.
3. Communication and languages
Strong communication skills.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Ability to draft and
proofread in English. Good knowledge of other language(s) would be an
advantage.

statisticians. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted
to arrange for these tests to be held.
