Some years back, Lynda and I hired a guy to build a floor-to-ceiling
bookshelf
for our apartment (rolling ladder extra). We may have even thought of
getting
our books in order--you know, alphabetically by author and title. Well, our
craftsman forgot to allow, when he measured, for the width of the shelves
themselves, so we reverted to what was always my preferred arrangement--
books thrown onto the shelves helter-skelter, lying down if they wouldn't
fit
vertically. While this, of course, made for strange shelf-mates, a clumping
effect set in that, over several years, brought related books into the same
vicinities. Hard to find what we were looking for sometimes, but easy to
find surprises.
