When I used to work for a council - I left last year - we would see the
employee with their questionnaire and carry out a basic medical.
BP/ Pulse/ Vision/ Urine/ Audio Questions about their cardiac,
circulatory and respiratory health, especially in cold weather. Also advice
about the type of clothing they should wear in the winter. The manager would
do a risk assessment if there were any queries about their ability to hold
the "lollipop" or to stand/walk for the required period of time.
Unfortunately the council stopped the medicals because of age legislation -
most of our lollipop persons were over retiring age. A bit silly if you ask
me as the first one I ever saw was over 80 and could hardly walk! Needless
to say he was retired with dignity.............
Regards
Gill

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] School crossing patrol guide medical
Morning everyone,
I have worked for numerous councils, and one thing I have noted is that
practice differs considerably between them for the above medical.
Does anyone else do these medicals? If so I would appreciate it if you
would advise what your normal practice is when you receive the
pre-employment form and what (if anything) you in relation to a medical.
Many thanks
Rachael :-)
