British Medical Journal Evidence Centre: Open Invitation for Medical Statistician Peer Reviewers
The British Medical Journal Evidence Centre (BMJ-EC) is a division of the internationally respected BMJ Group that produces the 'British Medical Journal' and 'Clinical Evidence'.
As part of our commitment to undertake assessment reports used within NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) appraisals of new health technologies, the BMJ-EC is establishing a Technology Assessment Group. BMJ-EC therefore wishes to establish an expert panel of experienced statisticians to act as peer reviewers within this high-profile national process.
Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification, or an equivalent qualification, in statistics, epidemiology, or a discipline with an important quantitative component. They should have knowledge / experience of design and analysis, and interpretation and reporting of clinical studies (both RCTs and observational studies), including survival analysis and evidence synthesis. Ideally, they should also have an understanding of economic evaluation. To ensure scientific independence, applicants should not have conflicts of interest that might arise from recent or current relationships with the pharmaceutical industry.
Referees will be remunerated for their time (anticipated 4-8 hours per assessment report, with a maximum of 8 assessment reports per year), and, when appropriate, will be listed as an author on publications resulting from the assessment.
Individuals who believe they may be able to offer the appropriate expertise should submit their CV and contact details to the Clinical Director, Dr Rubin Minhas ([log in to unmask]). Successful applicants will be initially appointed for a period of 3 years, with further renewal possible depending on progress. The closing date for applications is Friday 30th July.
