Hi,
I just had a look at the FCO Uganda webpage and it was updated 1st April
2010, it does not specifically mention ambulances or on a particular
hospital. I don't know who updates the pages.
The FCO will use the NHS as a benchmark. Having said that the FCO do
not audit medical services. There may be private facilities locally
which are good however they may appear to have good facilities but
hygiene, nursing care and equipment may not be comparable to NHS
standard. Staff posted overseas would have access to a list of
doctors/hospitals who's credentials would have been approved.
Hope that helps.
Siobhan

Hi Siobhan,
It`s so great to hear from someone with your background in FCO. Would
you know how often their country information is updated? I`ve been
recently looking at the Uganda pages and it`s pretty scary
reading.....e.g.it says there`re no ambulances, that there`s only one
proper hospital in the country, yet people who have been recently state
this is not true. I`ve been looking at this particular countriy`s site
for c. 2 years and it`s never been updated.....
I know this may not ever have been your remit while you were there but
just thought you might have a bit of insider knowledge,
many thanks, Amanda

Karen,
I was the lead OHA for the FCO for nearly two years. Happy to talk
through if you want to contact me off list.

I would like to know if anyone has any information on the support
agencies both private & voluntary who can offer support for employees
working/living abroad. In particular during times of enormous personal
stress.
I am looking into employee assistance programmes and telephone
counselling support but would like to explore a broader remit including
support on the ground in particular for China & Japan. Would also like
to include employees relatives who may also be isolated during dificult
times.
I have looked at the Foreign & Commonwealth site but have unable to find
anything useful.
Would appreciate contact from anyone who has experienced similar
situation or can offer any guidance/ suggestions.
Karen
