Research Associate / Senior Research Assistant

Salary: RA: £31,671 - £35,646; SRA: £25,198 - £30,656
Full time (37 hours per week),
Fixed term until 31st January 2011 (end of project deadline)
You will be required to work collaboratively with the UK team of the European (6th Framework) MICRODIS project www.microdis-eu.be. The overall goal of MICRODIS is to strengthen preparedness, mitigation and prevention strategies in order to reduce the health, social and economic impacts of extreme events on communities. Our consortium partners (in Europe and Asia) undertake research in disaster-affected communities to assess the health, economic and social impacts at the micro-level. The focus of this short-term post is to carry out analyses of already collected quantitative and qualitative data, and, with members of the UK MICRODIS team, convert this material into high quality journal publications, presentations and seminar papers.
You must have excellent knowledge of and ability in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and experience of analysing and reporting on research projects. A track record in publishing within high quality academic journals and knowledge of social science theories is also essential. To be considered at Research Associate level you must also hold a PhD in a relevant social science subject and demonstrate knowledge of SPSS.
Given the fixed end date, we would want the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.
