UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE
DIVISION OF PLANT SCIENCES
COLLEGE OF LIFE SCIENCES
BIOLOGICAL STATISTICIAN/BIOINFORMATICIST
GRADE 7-8 (£28,983 - £43,840)
This position requires an excellent and highly motivated researcher with a PhD in biological statistics and/or bioinformatics. The position is funded by BBSRC and will be for 3 years. The researcher will be part of a project within the BBSRC Sustainable Bioenergy Centre aimed at enabling efficient biofuel production from barley straw. The research of the Centre will include the production of large datasets generated by association genetics and eQTL analysis to map genes controlling cell wall traits that influence biofuel production capacity. The statistician/bioinformaticist will play a key role in experimental design and analysis of this data, including generating novel analytical methods where appropriate.
The successful applicant will join a research team led by Professor Claire Halpin that is part of the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, but is based at the near-by Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI), thus allowing them to benefit from expertise and resources at both institutions. The project is a close collaboration with Prof Robbie Waugh (SCRI). The Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS) group based at SCRI are consultants on the project and will work closely with the appointee. The project will make use of SCRI's extensive genomic and bioinformatic resources for barley. The salary and wider responsibilities of the post will match applicant's qualifications and experience.
Applications in the form of a CV and covering letter, including the names and addresses of 3 referees, should be sent to quoting REF: LS/3296. Alternatively, please send 2 copies of your CV and covering letter to Human Resources, College of Life Sciences, MSI/WTB/JBC Complex, University of Dundee, DD1 5EH.
